    DOUG SOCKHILL had a successful career in the Australian sugar industry, working for CSR and Wilmar, in the Burdekin and Herbert mills for 36 years. In 1984 he rafted the Franklin River in Tasmania. That journey became the foundations for his action-based memoir: The Franklin River Springs to Life. From low points of jails and courthouses in North Queensland to the highs of soaring through the French Alps, to near-fatal experiences. Doug has travelled extensively around the world, pursuing adventure. He now works as an international consultant to sugar industries.
