ABOUT BURDEKIN READERS & WRITERS

The Burdekin Readers & Writers Association was founded in 2014. In that time, BRW has hosted 3 bi-yearly, highly successful, well attended writers festivals. They were set for a fourth, having booked industry luminaries such as Tim Winton, however, Covid scuttled that. Since then, a hiatus, then a recent changing of the guard at board and committee level, has reinvigorated BRW with mini events planned for 2025, before the hotly anticipated and long awaited return of one of Australia’s best regarded readers and writers festivals returns in 2026!

Get set to be reignited, as BRW bring the fire and highlight top Australian authors and local writers once more.

Located in Far North Queensland, The Burdekin is the sugar cane capital of Australia. Home to stunning natural wetlands, beautiful beaches, abundant plains, boutique shopping, and the world-famous shipwreck, S.S Yongala.

The perfect place to relax in the spirited discourse of all things reading, writing, books and authors.
